Chelsea reportedly held talks with Lyon captain Nabil Fekir this summer but decided against signing the France international at the last minute.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 outfit over the past few windows and was thought to be on his way to Liverpool in June.

That move broke down after the medical department at Anfield supposedly found a lingering problem with the midfielder’s knee.

However Goal are claiming that the Blues also held talks with Lyon over the World Cup winner, but opted instead to sign Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovačić.

Negotiations supposedly took place during Chelsea’s match with Lyon in the International Champions Cup on August 7, but with just two days to go before the deadline, Maurizio Sarri decided to go for the Croatia international.

The west London club made just four signings during the off-season, including a world record move for goalkeeper Kepa.
