Mike Maignan is set to turn down interest from the Premier League in favour of signing a new deal at AC Milan until June 2028.
Maignan has been named as an option for Chelsea in the summer with the Blues having lacked a reliable number one this season.
Robert Sanchez has made five errors directly leading to goals, the joint-most of any Premier League goalkeeper alongside Ipswich Town’s Arijanet Muric. Sanchez has been dropped in recent fixtures in favour of summer signing Filip Jorgensen.
Chelsea are now set to be disappointed in their pursuit of Maignan. The France international has agreed terms on a new three-and-a-half year deal with Milan, which will include an improved salary of around €5m per season.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting the agreement will also contain the option of a further season.
Maignan signed for Milan from Lille in a €15m deal in 2021 and has since cemented himself among Serie A’s top goalkeepers.
He was named Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year after helping Milan to the Scudetto in his debut campaign and has twice been named in the division’s Team of the Year. Last month, the 29-year-old was appointed as the new club captain at the San Siro.
He has also been France’s number one goalkeeper since the international retirement of Hugo Lloris.
