Chelsea have been told to sign Jadon Sancho permanently after his Conference League final heroics.

Sancho joined the Blues on loan from Manchester United last summer, with an obligation to make the move permanent for £25million. However, after a somewhat impressive start, Sancho struggled to assert himself in Enzo Maresca's preferred starting line-up.

Reports then emerged that Chelsea could, in fact, cancel their loan-to-buy obligation and send Sancho back to United by paying a £5million penalty.

That was widely expected to happen before Sancho's cameo in the Poland final, which saw him score a stunning, curling effort to settle the cup win against Real Betis.

Asked after the game if a decision had been made on Sancho's future, manager Enzo Maresca said: "We are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year.

He’s come here and got his career back on track. I still think there is more to come from him; I really do."

Joe Cole on Jadon Sancho

"If we finish fourth [in the Premier League] it is also because of Jadon, if we win tonight it is also because of Jadon. It is normal in a season to go a little bit up and down, it is part of the game."

Former Chelsea forward Joe Cole, who was working as a pundit for TNT Sports for the final, believes Sancho deserves to stay with the Blues. He said: “Yes, I do.

"This is a kid that has gone to Dortmund and was a star. He was a superstar as a kid. He went to Manchester United and wasn’t one. He’s done it. He’s come here and got his career back on track. I still think there is more to come from him; I really do."

Fellow pundit Michail Antonio agreed, adding: "I think Chelsea should sign Jadon Sancho. He has been an important factor to the squad, and in parts of the season he has been the catalyst for the team.

"I think he would be a good signing and would help them to keep pushing next season and what is to come."
