Chelsea to play Man City in USA this summer on major overseas tour | OneFootball

Chelsea are set to play more games in the United States this summer, with the club “in discussions” with Man City about a game against the Champions, Adam Crafton has revealed in his article for the Athletic today.

They won’t be part of the Premier League’s official “Summer Series” event as they were last year, but will do their own tour with plenty of commercial opportunities for the new ownership to take advantage of.

Crafton also notes an interesting dispute which could spell trouble for this “Summer Series” down the line. Clubs have long monetised their preseason tours by broadcasting the games as pay-per-view on their own websites or TV channels. For most clubs, this is the only first team action the club’s media outlets have exclusive access to.

But of course the Premier League wants to clamp down on this. For now, things will carry on as they are, but eventually it seems likely this issue is going to come to a head.
