According to reports, Chelsea are planning to have a meeting with Serie A giants Inter Milan to discuss deals for Romelu Lukaku and Andre Onana.

There are still a few games of the 2022/23 season remaining, but for Chelsea, the campaign is already over. They have exited each cup competition and they are 11th in the Premier League.

One of his aims during the summer will be to find a solution for Chelsea’s struggles in front of goal. So far this term, they have only netted 30 goals in 31 league games.

In recent days it has been suggested that they could reintegrate Lukaku next season. The Belgium international is currently on loan at Inter Milan.

A report from The Evening Standard now claims ‘Chelsea will meet Inter Milan next week to discuss Lukaku’s future and the potential signing of goalkeeper Onana’. The report adds.

‘The £97.5million striker wants to remain in Italy but faces a fight to convince the Serie A club to keep him for another season on the current terms of his loan. ‘Inter had an agreement to keep Lukaku next season for the same £7m loan fee and £165,000-a-week in wages, roughly half his Chelsea contract, they paid this season. ‘But the 29-year-old has missed 18 matches through injury since joining last summer and Inter are under financial pressure to offload players to cover club debts. ‘Sending Lukaku back to Chelsea would help them balance the books, and his future will be top on the agenda when the two clubs meet in Milan.’

The Blues will offer Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy to Inter Milan ‘in a swap deal’ involving Onana. This transfer is far from being completed, however, as the Serie A outfit may ‘demand a larger transfer fee’ and they could reject a ‘player exchange’ proposal for the goalkeeper, who is on their transfer list.

Brentford’s David Raya, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili are understood to be alternative options for Chelsea.

A separate report from 90min claims ‘Chelsea and Tottenham have indicated to Inter that they are willing to take Onana off their hands’.

The two Premier League clubs are willing to sign Onana for a ‘cut-priced fee’ as they are ‘in the market for reinforcements between the sticks’.

Chelsea view Onana as the ‘ideal number one’, while Tottenham ‘have long admired Onana and are on the lookout for a successor to Hugo Lloris’.
