Chelsea to appoint Christopher Vivell as technical director after German leaves RB Leipzig | OneFootball

No sooner had we published the story that Christopher Vivell had left RB Leipzig than we get the exclusive from Matt Law that the technical director would be joining Chelsea.

That seemed inevitable – he had been in meetings with the Blues and he wouldn’t have left Leipzig without somewhere else to go – but now it’s been confirmed by one of the best connected reporters on the Chelsea beat.

He will operate in the same role at Chelsea as he did at Leipzig, although it’s not clear if he will start immediately or be held to some sort of gardening leave.

The new ownership has made it very clear that they want to pursue an ownership path similar to the one used by the Red Bull clubs, and signing up a man who has worked in a key role there is a no brainer.

As Law writes, this won’t be the last staff addition to Chelsea’s ownership group this summer.
