Chelsea the third most favoured team to qualify in Champions League after ideal double draw

Chelsea had an up and down day yesterday with the repeated Champions League draw.

First, the euphoria of beating the odds and getting the soft option – Lille.

Then the crushing disappointment of realising there had to be a redraw.

Then… euphoria all over again when we got Lille again.

Our reasoning is sound, at least according to the numbers at Oddschecker. They say that we have a 1.25 chance of qualifying, meaning you’d only get 25p profit for betting £1 on us.

The only teams more heavily favoured than us are Man City and Bayern Munich, who are both 1.17 to progress.

As runners up in our group we couldn’t have had Salzburg or Sporting either, so to almost match their numbers against a group winner is great work.

Maybe that’s the stroke of luck we needed after some bad times with injury that will help us turn the corner on this tricky spell.
