Chelsea summer transfer falls through – deal “unlikely” as player disappoints following bright start

Chelsea had an exceptionally busy January in terms of players heading out and the reshuffling of their squad, but a lot of those moves have backfired.

We all know what’s happened with Joao Felix at AC Milan – Chelsea sent him there just 6 month after signing him, and after a bright start he quickly lost his place in the team. Now it looks like he will be sent back in the summer, another player we don’t want or need who we have to figure out what to do with this summer.

Renato Veiga was in a similar boat – also signed in the summer and also loaned out to Serie A after 6 months. But it seemed his trip was going a lot better. He started 5 games in a row both in Europe and domestically and made a really good initial impact.

However an injury he picked up in the disappointing Champions League playoff loss to PSV Eindhoven changed everything. He missed a few weeks and has struggled to get into the team since. Manager Thiago Motta has since been fired, and suddenly what looked like a move that was certain to become permanent is in major doubt.

Chelsea’s loan solution proves temporary respite once again

Now top Italian paper the Gazzetta dello Sport say that Juve are “unlikely” to extend Veiga’ stay, and they’re now not convinced by his performances.

This is just another headache for Chelsea to worry about in the summer. All hopes of a quick flip of the Portugal international for profit are gone. It will be interesting to see whether he pushes for another move away in the summer, or if he’s content to be Marc Cucurella’s backup once again should we reach the Champions League.
