Nicolas Jackson wants to finish the season on a high and won’t risk that by having a repeat of the penalty row in the 6-0 win against Everton.

The chaos surrounding the second half penalty took the shine off a good personal performance from the 22-year-old who set up the opener for Cole Palmer before scoring Chelsea’s fourth with a great touch, turn and finish.

Jackson has scored ten Premier League goals following his summer arrival from Villareal for £32.5m and has 13 goals in all competitions.

The Senegal international has already matched Didier Drogba’s league tally from his first season and is only three behind the Ivorian legend’s total of 16.

Telegraph Sport have reported that Jackson is trying to finish the season on 15 Premier League goals or more and believes 20 in all competitions is possible.

Perhaps this explains why he was so keen to take the penalty against Everton and even at full time Jackson was still upset and had to be calmed down by Moises Caicedo.

Jackson has certainly improved his finishing from the start of the season and his goal on Monday night was evidence of that, and he also registered his fifth assist of the campaign, showing his awareness to set up Palmer.

There are also signs the striker’s discipline has improved and he hasn’t picked up a booking since the 3-1 win away at Crystal Palace in February.

He has now gone on a run of seven games without being booked, his longest this season.

The former Villareal man now just needs to get through the game against Arsenal next Tuesday to avoid getting a two game ban.

With at least eight games of the season left providing he avoids getting suspended there’s every chance that Jackson will finish the season strongly and add to his goal tally.
