Things are certainly in motion at Chelsea right now.
Today the exit of Mike Penders to Strasbourg on loan was confirmed, and that will be just the first move of what could be a busy week. Ajax defender Jorrel Hato is expected to join in the days to come, with his countryman Xavi Simons set to follow after that.
Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on Christopher Nkunku’s future came some days ago and there has been little progress since.
It’s not all moving quickly though – some of the bigger potential deals haven’t had much action for a while. Christopher Nkunku is a top asset on the books who by all accounts we would like to sell. Yet since Fabrizio Romano updated us a couple of weeks ago that the club are still open to selling him, we’ve barely heard a whisper.
There were whispers last week that Newcastle and Nottingham Forest were still keen on the former RB Leipzig man, and Bayern Munich’s long-standing interest is a constant theme. But there still is very little concrete talk of a bid.
Another big move currently in motion is the departure of Joao Felix to the Saudi Arabian leagues. That move should give everyone hope that something major could still happen for Nkunku. He’s got a better short and long term record than Felix – if there’s interest in the Portuguese at a good price, there should certainly be interest in Nkunku.
This may just be a case of waiting it out – those Premier League teams who are interested have the money to make it happen, it’s just a question of them working their way through their options. Newcastle in particular are having a difficult summer, and could be left in a desperate rush for signings towards the deadline.
