Mauricio Pochettino has hinted club captain Reece James could be part of the squad for Saturday’s game with Nottingham Forest.

James has endured another injury plagued season and has been sidelined since December with a hamstring injury which he underwent surgery on.

The 24-year-old has been limited to just nine appearances, but his return to full first team training is a welcome end of season boost for the Blues.

Reece James could feature against Nottingham Forest

The Blues have suffered an incredible 54 injuries to players this season, which is a league high, and 16 more than second placed Newcastle with 38.

In the recent win over Tottenham Pochettino was without 14 players, but as the season draws to a close that list is getting shorter, with the club set to be missing six players for the Forest game.

Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto returned to action last weekend against West Ham and in more good news it appears James could feature at the City Ground.

James hasn’t played for Chelsea since December.

“We need to assess some players, we need to see, maybe he can be available to be in the squad”, Pochettino told his pre match press conference.

“The most important thing is he will be there with us, it’s a massive boost for any team.

“Then, we have an amazing relationship, he’s an amazing player.

“It’s not easy, coming from a long-term injury, the most important thing is he can be available and in the squad, five, 10, 15 minutes, half an hour.

“It’s unlucky that it’s only the last week, but it’s important to finish with good feelings, and for him, it’ll be amazing to be involved.”

It’s been 152 days since James last played for Chelsea, and whilst it appears like it will be too late to make Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros, getting back out on the pitch will be a huge lift for everyone at the club.
