Conor Gallagher has thanked Chelsea fans for believing in him this season, saying it’s helped him grow in confidence as the Blues secured a return to European football.

The Blues overcame a difficult first half of the season, which saw them win just three of their first ten Premier League games, to rally strongly in the second half, finishing with five wins in a row to secure a top six finish.

The result of Saturday’s FA Cup final will determine what competition the Blues play in, with a Manchester City win meaning Europa League football, whilst a Manchester United win would mean Europa Conference League.

Gallagher reflects on positive season

Gallager had a brilliant campaign in just his second season at Stamford Bridge and became the first and only Chelsea player to play 50 matches this season with his appearance against Bournemouth on the final day.

The 24-year-old was a mainstay in the middle of the park under Mauricio Pochettino, and captained the side in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Having missed out on European football completely following a dismal 2022/2023 campaign the England International feels it’s key to place this season’s achievements in context, whilst acknowledging the club’s previous success.

Gallagher has had a brilliant season for Chelsea.

“It was a fantastic end to the season”, Gallagher told Chelsea’s website.

“I think we won the last five games and it’s a great achievement for us.

“Securing European football is also a great achievement considering where we were at, but the expectation at Chelsea is more than what we have achieved this season.

“Everyone knows that but considering the moment, it’s a great achievement.”

On a personal level Gallagher feels he’s had a successful season, having his best campaign in front of goal and playing more games and minutes than anyone else in the squad.

“Personally, I think it’s been a successful season for myself”, he added.

“I’m really thankful to the fans for believing in me and showing their support throughout the season because it has helped me grow in confidence and perform the way we have, so I’m very thankful for that.

“I’ve scored a few goals which has been very nice, you can’t beat the feeling of scoring and I’m really happy that I’ve been able to help the team out because that’s the most important thing.”

Gallagher could have played his last game for the club with his future up in the air due to his contract expiring in 2025, and no signs of talks over a new deal.
