With Barcelona’s economic policies starting to resurface, the club are being pressured to offload a few of the star players in order to make way for new signings.

Frenkie de Jong has been the centre of attention throughout the summer, with the midfielder being subjected to a move to Manchester United. The Dutchman has been left frustrated by the club and a move away from Camp Nou could soon be on the horizon.

However, another player in contention to leave Barcelona this month is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabonese international has become a target for Chelsea, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly keen on attaining his services. The German mastermind had worked with Aubameyang during their time together at Borussia Dortmund and it appears he is seeking a reunion at Stamford Bridge.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ready to step up their pursuit of Aubameyang. They are expected to be in contact with Barcelona through intermediaries over the prospect of signing the Gabonese international this month.

With Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer, Chelsea are determined to sign a new number nine for the season ahead. It appears Aubameyang has emerged as the ideal option, especially in light of Barcelona’s financial plight.

Romano suggests Chelsea are set to discuss the conditions of the potential deal with Barcelona, before deciding on the possibility of a first official bid.

Barça, for their part, are not too keen on offloading Aubameyang. However, amid fierce economic pressure, coupled with the signing of Robert Lewandowski, it will not be surprising to see the Catalans sanction the exit of the former Borussia Dortmund star this month.
