Transfer News: Chelsea set to battle Arsenal for Eric Garcia

According to transfer news from Daily Star, Chelsea are set to battle Arsenal for the signing of Eric Garcia. The Manchester City starlet was supposed to join Barcelona on a free transfer but now the Spanish club have changed their stance, leaving Garcia’s future up in the air.

The 20-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract at the Etihad. The Cityzens are willing to tie him down to fresh terms.

But the young centre-back is willing to pursue his career away from the Premier League heavyweights. Barcelona were the front runners to re-sign their former academy prospect.

Garcia spent nine years in the youth system of Barcelona between 2008 and 2017 before moving to England with Man City. However, the Spaniard has found regular minutes hard to come by in the ongoing campaign. The arrival of Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake in the summer has pushed him down the pecking order.

Now that Barcelona’s decision has put Garcia back in the market, Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are all set to go after the talented defender. Both clubs have previously approached the player regarding a move.

Garcia would cost Chelsea nothing other than wages and could be a very smart coup. The youngster is an experienced customer in the league and would have no problems adjusting to the move.

He could well be the long-term replacement for the likes of Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta if Chelsea can get one over Arsenal to land him.
