Chelsea have reportedly told their rivals that it will cost them £35m if they want to sign USA international Christian Pulisic in January.

The midfielder hoped a fresh start under Graham Potter would do him good as he did not fully see eye to eye with the club’s former boss Thomas Tuchel.

Pulisic remarkably spoke out against the German following his exit from Chelsea earlier this season.

The American was particularly aggrieved to be left out of Chelsea’s starting eleven for their Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid in 2021.

“Tuchel told me that he was resting me for the second leg and as a result, I didn’t play a single minute in the Fulham game,” Pulisic said.

“Then on match day of the second semi, Tuchel tells me he’s changed his mind and he’s going with Kai [Havertz]. I honestly was dumbfounded and very disappointed.

“I thought that I’d earned a start and, most importantly, he had assured me previously I was going to start.

“So by the time he brought me on with about 25 minutes left, I was just so wound up.”

No doubt to his frustration, Pulisic’s fortunes have not improved too much since Potter took over. He has been in and out of the team and he has struggled to make a significant impact.

The Blues paid around £58m to sign Pulisic and it is fair to say now that he has flopped at Stamford Bridge. So far this season, he has grabbed just one goal and two assists in 18 appearances.

Pulisic tends to perform much better in a United States shirt though and he played well against England in the World Cup group stages earlier this week.

This has fuelled talk of a transfer elsewhere and Man Utd are among the clubs interested in him.

The Red Devils were linked with him just before the summer transfer window closed but the move may be back on the table ahead of January.

The Daily Mail are now reporting that Chelsea are ‘weighing up whether to cash in on the 24-year-old during the January window rather than allow his contract to run down to the final 12 months’.

It is also ‘anticipated’ that Chelsea ‘will look for around £35m’ for Pulisic in January. The report adds that the player and club ‘do not want a loan deal’.

There is said to be a ‘three-way battle’ for Pulisic though as Arsenal and Newcastle United are also ‘monitoring his developments’.

Pulisic is not the only midfielder Man Utd are looking at, however. They are also ‘crazy’ about Argentina and Benfica star Enzo Fernandez.

The 21-year-old has made an impact at the World Cup as he got on the scoresheet in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Mexico earlier this week.

Any deal for Fernandez will be expensive though as his current deal includes a £100m release clause.
