Chelsea have had an opening offer of €35m turned down for Lazio centre-back Mario Gila, according to reports in Italy.
The West Londoners are one of several teams to have expressed interest in Gila, who has caught the eye in Rome. Gila joined Lazio from Real Madrid in 2022 and has grown in stature in the Italian capital.
Last season, the defender ranked among Serie A’s top performers for pass completion (10th), dribblers tackled (4th) and progressive carrying distance (6th).
Chelsea want to bring in another centre-back, with Axel Disasi set to leave Stamford Bridge. Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa and has been deemed surplus to requirements. There are also doubts over the future of Benoit Badiashile, despite his involvement in the Club World Cup squad.
Italian publication Il Messaggero have claimed that Chelsea’s initial offer of €35 million was turned down by Lazio.
However, the Serie A side are willing to do business if their €50m asking price is met. There is rival interest in Gila from across Europe, with Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth and Paris Saint-Germain among those linked.
Bournemouth consider Gila as an ideal replacement for Dean Huijsen, following his move to Real Madrid. The Cherries are also facing interest in fellow centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi.
