Chelsea have restarted talks with Benfica to sign Enzo Fernández and are eager to add him to the squad ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

It has been a busy month so far for the Blues with Mikhailo Mudryk, João Félix, Benoît Badiashile, Noni Madueke and Malo Gusto among the names who have arrived so far.

But the Telegraph now report that discussions are underway to add the Argentine World Cup winner to that stellar group.

Earlier this month, a bid of £70m was rejected by the Portuguese giants but Chelsea are adamant they will go higher in the coming days to get a deal over the line.

The Blues are believed to be encouraged in their last ditch pursuit of Fernández, with additional reports in Portugal claiming that they have put two potential opening offers on the table.

One would see them part with £85m plus send an unnamed player in the other direction, while the other claims they will meet his £105m release clause but only if they can pay that fee in instalments.

Benfica have been steadfast in their stance that they want the midfielder’s release clause paid in full if he is to move this month and Chelsea are unwilling to do that as things stand.
