Encouraging news for Chelsea as Real Madrid could be out of Erling Haaland transfer race

A report by Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Football.london) states that Real Madrid could be forced to abandon the race to sign Chelsea transfer target Erling Haaland.

This is due to Madrid feeling the financial effects of Covid-19, which has also impacted several other clubs during the past 12 months.

But now, Zinedine Zidane’s side might be out of the race to sign the Norwegian. The report states that Madrid are in a position to assemble a competitive squad for their next campaign.

However, it also states that the club would be in a tough position to land superstars such as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. This comes as good news to the Blues, who have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old.

Haaland has a £68million release clause. But it activates next year and thus, teams would have to fork out a large sum of money to land him before 2022.

Chelsea just signed a striker from Bundesliga this season. Timo Werner arrived from RB Leipzig last summer. Unfortunately, his bright start to the season has turned into a 11-match goal drought in the league.
