Chelsea are considering paying a “penalty fee” to avoid signing Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old joined the Blues last year on loan from Man Utd on terms that Chelsea will sign him permanently for £25 million if they finish above 14th in the Premier League.
Chelsea are fighting for a top-four place in the league, and under the terms of the deal, they will have to sign Sancho in the summer. It was assumed that the England international would never return to Old Trafford.
According to a report from iNews, the deal includes a clause that allows Chelsea to get out of the transfer if they pay a penalty fee, and the Blues are considering that option.
Sancho started strongly at Stamford Bridge, but he has failed to maintain consistency. He has managed only two goals and four assists in 23 games for Chelsea, and the Londoners are clearly not happy with his performance.
Chelsea have agreed to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon, and the club could cut their losses on Sancho and pay a fee to avoid signing him permanently.
Sancho’s form has been erratic, and that is why Chelsea are hesitant about signing him permanently. His performances have dropped horribly since the start of the year.
If Chelsea decide to terminate the deal, Sancho will return to Old Trafford in the summer. However, the Red Devils do not want him back.
He is not in Ruben Amorim’s plans, and the club are planning for the future without him. In fact, Sancho does not want to keep any touch with Man Utd either, and he wrote “freedom” on Marcus Rashford’s social media post when he moved to Aston Villa.
In that case, the Red Devils are likely to sell him elsewhere permanently. At the moment, Chelsea are sticking to the obligations of the deal, but there is high possibility of them ripping up the agreement before the end of the season.
