Barcelona have a truly exceptional talent on their hands in the form of young midfielder Gavi.

Aged just 17, the La Masia product broke into the first team this season under Ronald Koeman and has soon gone about establishing himself as a regular starter in the side. The youngster has already made 18 senior appearances in all competitions, registering an assist in the process.

Gavi even managed to break into the Spanish national team and earned a lot of plaudits for his performances in the UEFA Nations League in October. Naturally, his rise to prominence in recent months has piqued the interest of several clubs, with Chelsea, in particular, showing great intent to sign him.

According to El Nacional, the reigning champions of Europe are intent on taking Gavi to Stamford Bridge as manager Thomas Tuchel is a huge admirer of the Spanish international and believes that he can grow into one of the best midfielders in the game in a few years.

The 17-year-old is believed to have a release clause worth €50 million, which Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to trigger at the insistence of his manager. In addition to that, it is claimed that the Premier League giants have already been in contact with the Barca starlet’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, and have made a contract offer.

The west London giants, it seems, are ready to hand Gavi a bumper deal worth €6 million per year. Furthermore, Chelsea are willing to make him the centre of their project in the immediate future. At the same time, the promise of competing for the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League trophy is also an appealing factor.

With talks of the move gaining weight, Barcelona themselves are trying to tie the youngster down to a new contract. It was initially believed that Gavi wished to continue at Camp Nou.

But the report claims that he is having doubts about an extension as the club are going through a rebuild and might be unable to challenge for top titles for a while, judging by how their season has gone so far.

Chelsea are understood to be quite optimistic about their chances of landing the teenage prodigy. As for Barcelona, they must act quickly to secure his long-term future by offering him a new and improved deal.
