Chelsea’s negotiations with Palmeiras to loan Andrey Santos have hit a stumbling block, according to the Evening Standard.

Negotiations reportedly stalled over the length of the loan deal for the talented teenager.

The Blues want the player to return to them ahead of next season, but the Brazilian giants want to keep him until December 2023.

Chelsea are trying to loan the 18-year-old back to Brazil after failing to secure a work permit for him.

The club made two attempts to secure permission for him to play in England, but he missed out by one point both times.

Chelsea hoped the former Vasco da Gama midfielder could link up with record-signing Enzo Fernandez.

They were sure Santos’ participation and performances at the South American Youth Football Championship would help him secure his permit.

He impressed at the tournament netting six goals to finish joint-top scorer with teammate Vitor Roque. His energy and drive in midfield were vital as Brazil won the title.

Santos received plaudits for his leadership qualities. He captained the team at the tournament.

However, he cannot play for Chelsea now and hopes his parent club and Palmeiras can agree on terms for the loan deal.

The player chose Palmeiras as his loan destination due to their status and reputation for developing talents.

Both parties are discussing a €1.5 million recall clause. This clause would allow the Premier League club to have him back in June.

Santos will likely get his permit after playing for a club competing in the Brazilian top flight and Copa Libertadores.

Chelsea signed Santos from Vasco da Gama in January after a breakout campaign. He netted eight goals and assisted four, announcing himself as one of his nation’s new wonderkid.

The Blues paid £18m to sign him, but they must wait before he can play for the club.
