Chelsea owner to stay in chairman role until 2027 despite becoming a “public punchbag” | OneFootball

Matt Law’s latest piece on the bizarre and fascinating workings of Chelsea’s ownership has revealed that Todd Boehly is not going to give up the chairmanship of the ownership group despite having become a “public punchbag,” as Law put it.

Boehly certainly has become a shorthand for the ownership, and those who are not paying close attention would be forgiven for thinking he was top dog, rather than just part of a wider group of owners with differing stakes.

Once Boehly’s term is up in 2027, it’s over to Clearlake Capital. That’s the side of the ownership where Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano come in, and they are apparently keen to take over the chairmanship (either themselves or through an appointment of their choosing) as soon as they can.

By then they will hope that poor Boehly’s face has taken all the egg, and they can arrive on the back of this painful transition period to soak up our success.

That’s the idea, anyway…
