Romelu Lukaku has sent a clear message that he wants to start against Man City with his performance against Torino.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper argue that the Belgian’s MOTM display in a 1-0 win on the final day of the Serie A season makes his intentions for the Champions League final clear.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has just under a week to decide who’s going to start against City in Istanbul.

Theoretically, the coach has decisions to make all over the pitch. In reality, however, the coach already has pretty clear ideas.

One position in which that may not be true, however, is in attack.

Lukaku Sends Man City Message With Excellent Outing Vs Torino

Lukaku is keen to start in the final.

The Belgian will be well aware of how hard displacing Edin Dzeko from the starting eleven will be. Inzaghi has never wavered in his trust in the Bosnian in big knockout matches.

Even with Lukaku back fit and in form, Dzeko has been favoured in the Champions League semifinal tie against Milan, and the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina.

Lukaku has started coming up with goals and assists in Serie A since the end of April. And yet, Dzeko has started during the week.

However, the Belgian has finished the season with a fine closing salvo.

Whilst Lukaku did not manage to get on the scoresheet against Torino yesterday, he did just about everything else. The Gazzetta name Lukaku as the best player on the pitch in Inter’s 1-0 win over the Granata.

Now, the ball is in Inzaghi’s court.

The coach has seen what Lukaku can do over the past few weeks. It’s been a difficult, injury-disrupted season for the 30-year-old on his return from Chelsea. But now, he looks as ready as he’ll ever be for Istanbul.
