Kepa Arrizabalaga is currently in a state of anticipation, eagerly waiting to see how the situation with Andriy Lunin unfolds.

This is because his main objective is to remain with Real Madrid, leading him to put on hold the various offers that have come his way, reports MARCA.

It must be remembered that last season, Kepa was on loan at Real Madrid, but unfortunately, an injury at the wrong time coincided with Lunin hitting peak form.

This timing resulted in Kepa losing his place in the starting lineup. Now, the situation has evolved, and it appears that Lunin will not be maintaining his position in the first team for the upcoming season due to the return of Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois’ comeback means that Lunin is seriously considering leaving Real Madrid. However, it’s worth noting that Lunin has neither committed to signing a contract extension nor formally informed the club of his intention to depart.

What is Real Madrid’s take on this situation?

Following the Champions League final, there was a general consensus in the locker room that Lunin would likely seek a new club for the next season.

Within the team, the current goalkeeping situation is viewed as stable. The club feels confident with Courtois as their first-choice goalkeeper and Lunin as the backup.

Nonetheless, should Lunin decide to leave, the club would be compelled to explore the option of signing another goalkeeper and this potential scenario has brought Kepa back into the discussion.

Kepa wants to stay at Real Madrid

For now, Kepa has returned to Chelsea, but they do not seem too keen on retaining his services.

The goalkeeper enjoyed his time in Madrid, fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing at the Santiago Bernabeu and as things stand, he is patiently waiting to see how events unfold.

Real Madrid, on their part, are not in a rush to make any changes to their goalkeeping roster unless circumstances change significantly. The club’s management is aware of the situation but remains in a state of readiness to act if necessary.

For now, Kepa’s desire is to return to Real Madrid, but the club has not yet signalled any intention to initiate a transfer. Nonetheless, it is clear that if Lunin makes a move, Real Madrid could very well activate plans to bring Kepa back.
