Chelsea opted against signing Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran this summer after carrying out a thorough review of the player according to The Athletic.

The Blues once again had a busy summer with a number of new faces coming through the door including the likes of Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto.

A number of young stars for the future were also signed, whilst the club managed to move on several players including Conor Gallagher, Raheem Sterling and Trevoh Chalobah.

However, despite making several signings another window passed and the Blues failed to sign a striker, a position they have been looking to fill for at least the last 18 months.

Marc Guiu did arrive from Barcelona but the teenager was an opportunity in the market due to his €6m release clause and Chelsea ideally wanted a top striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson.

The Blues were linked with a whole host of names across Europe throughout the summer, with their main target Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea opted against signing Duran this summer.

Despite pursuing the Nigerian right up until the final hours of the window and making a number of offers they were unable to reach an agreement on personal terms, with the striker not prepared to compromise on his wages and Chelsea not prepared to go beyond their wage structure.

It appeared pretty certain earlier in the window Chelsea would end up signing Duran from Villa, but that move failed to materialise in the end with interest in the Colombian cooling significantly.

The Athletic have now reported the Blues opted against signing Duran several weeks before the end of the window after carrying out a thorough review of the player.

There clearly must have been something Chelsea were unsure on with the striker which made them opt against a move, although they could perhaps be regretting that move after Duran scored twice in the first three games of the Premier League games.

The Blues will now have to get by until at least January with Jackson and Guiu, whilst Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku could be alternative options.
