According to Foot Mercato, PSG and Chelsea have both agreed personal terms with Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte in a bid to sign him in the summer transfer window. The Sporting midfielder is a player PSG have earmarked as one of their key transfer targets. However, despite being able to agree on personal terms with Ugarte, PSG have fallen behind in the race for his signature.

Ugarte has a €60 million release clause within his contract at Sporting which has attracted the interest of many European clubs, after a series of impressive performances from the Uruguayan international. PSG are willing to pay his release fee, but Chelsea are offering Sporting more money on top of the clause and there is an unwillingness from the French champions’ board to match Chelsea’s offer. Therefore, the Blues have stolen a march on Les Parisiens as things stand in the race to sign the 22-year-old midfielder.

Chelsea are now looking to push ahead on a deal to sign the Uruguayan midfielder and will await documents from Sporting to confirm a deal in the coming hours. However, a move to the French capital is still favourable from the player’s perspective, so any late twist in the tale, if PSG were to match Chelsea’s offer, could put their pursuit of Ugarte back on track.
