Journalist Paul Brown thinks that Mason Mount will be eventually become captain of Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has worn the armband on two occasions previously, including in Frank Lampard's final game as manager against Luton in the FA Cup in January.

Mount then captained the side against Sheffield United later in the competition and whilst he hasn't been given the honour this year, Brown has tipped him for the full-time role in the future.

What's the latest news with Mount?

The midfielder is yet to hit top form this season, but Mount has already proved his importance to the Blues following his rapid rise in recent years.

Mount has registered just one assist this term but was directly involved in 18 goals in 54 appearances last season, scoring nine and assisting nine more to help Chelsea win the Champions League and reach the FA Cup final.

Mount has since been nominated for the Ballon d'Or along with Chelsea teammates Cesar Azpilicueta, N'Golo Kante and Romelu Lukaku.

Mount, valued at £67.5m by Transfermarkt, is an outsider to win the award, but his nomination is further evidence of his rise from a Championship player with Derby to one of the most talented youngsters in Europe in just more than two years.

The next step for Mount would be to take the armband on a permanent basis once Azpilicueta moves on and Brown has predicted that to eventually happen.

What did Brown say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "He's a future captain of the club for me. You know, he's just an amazing talent. People underestimate just how good Mason Mount is. He really makes Chelsea tick."

When could Mount become captain?

Azpilicueta is currently in his tenth season as a Chelsea player but is still a regular starter for both club and country and appears to have plenty left in the tank despite turning 33 in August.

Did Timo Werner score on his Premier League debut for Chelsea?

Yes No

Chelsea's previous captain John Terry was still playing for the club when he was 36, which suggests that Mount has got some way to go until he gets the role full-time.

For now, though, Mount will be focusing on winning his place back in Thomas Tuchel's side after starting just one of the previous four Premier League matches and he was hauled off at half-time in that, although he did miss the defeat to Manchester City through injury.
