Chelsea named “club of the year” at Ballon d’Or awards

Chelsea have been named the 2021 club of the year at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in France.

It’s a new award that France Football has introduced this year, and it’s not really clear what one has to do to win it other than win the Champions League.

It would certainly have felt unjust to win the top European trophy, followed by the UEFA Super Cup, and not get it. But we suppose in time we will figure out more about what it’s about.

Chelsea’s 5 nominees were stuck at Stamford Bridge to receive their individual awards and this group one, but they all looked chuffed as the rather awkward award ceremony chuntered on.

Well done guys, and all those players and staff not shortlist. You’ve all done your bit to get Chelsea back to the top. Now we’ve been the first to win it, maybe we can be the first to go back to back in it?
