Chelsea are set to part ways with youngster Mathis Amougou just months after signing him from AS Saint-Etienne for around £12 million.

According to L’Equipe, Amougou will sign a five-year contract with Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, ensuring he remains in the BlueCo portfolio.

The Blues inserted a buyback clause in the deal to send him back to France, where he will continue his development.

He will leave Stamford Bridge for Strasbourg tomorrow to inspect their facilities and speak to club officials.

He is leaving on a permanent deal to make space for Mike Penders, who will also join Strasbourg on loan following the departure of Djordje Petrovic.

Amougou will likely play a central role for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 and the Europa Conference League next season, now that Habib Diarra and Andrey Santos have left the club.

They were crucial cogs in the Strasbourg engine room, and Amougou has massive boots to fill, but will benefit from the game time under manager Liam Rosenior.

However, the move raises more questions about Chelsea and their scattergun transfer policy, which has stalled the careers of a few promising players.

Amougou, Deivid Washington, Aaron Anselmino, Omari Kellyman, Lesley Ugochukwu, Carney Chukwuemeka, and David Datro Fofana have been hindered by the club’s transfer policy.

To make matters worse, these players are at crucial junctions of their careers and must play to improve.
