In a recent report, Chronicle Live mentioned that Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is on the radar of Newcastle United. It has been claimed that the Magpies could try to land the English midfield ace from the Blues next summer after failing to sign him on loan earlier this year.

Gallagher’s Season Of Mixed Emotions In English Football

Gallagher is having an up-and-down season at the West London club as he has struggled to be consistent for them at the centre of the park. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net once and earned one assist in 26 matches for Chelsea during this campaign across multiple competitions.

The England international has caught the eye at times but has been far from reliable with his midfield contributions. Gallagher is averaging 1.5 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 0.6 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he deserves some credit for being tidy with his ball distribution based on his pass success rate of 83.1% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Gallagher’s current contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, Graham Potter has no immediate need to let him go next summer.

Should Chelsea Head Coach Graham Potter Let Gallagher Go?

Gallagher is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions for his side when he is playing well on the pitch. He can strike the ball purely and with venom from long range.

Gallagher is a box-to-box midfielder but can also function as a holding midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if his manager asks him to do so. The English sensation has also got the vision to orchestrate some meaningful chances for his teammates up top. He is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty box.

However, things have just not clicked for Gallagher at Chelsea this season. Still, the Blues should consider being a bit patient with his progress for now as he has already shown signs of what he is capable of at the West London club recently.

Gallagher is got the work ethic to mature as a footballer and prove his worth at Stamford Bridge in the long run. At 22, the future is quite promising for the English talent, so Graham Potter should not think about letting him go when the transfer window reopens at the end of this campaign.
