Chelsea meet with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann | OneFootball

Chelsea have opened talks with Julian Nagelsmann over their vacant managerial position, reports Sky Sports.

Nagelsmann was in charge of Bayern Munich for just under two years, taking over from Hansi Flick in July 2021. In his debut campaign at the Bavarians, he guided them to a tenth consecutive league title.

However, this season was not as fruitful. Last month, he was dismissed and replaced by Thomas Tuchel, with the club in second place in the league.

This was despite his side having a 100 percent record in the Champions League at the time.

The German’s sacking was met with surprise and confusion, quickly followed by widespread speculation surrounding his future.

Premier League duo Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been closely linked, along with Spanish giants Real Madrid amid rumours that Carlo Ancelotti could depart for Brazil.

Chelsea have now sought to make the next step. According to Sky Sports, the Blues have opened talks with Nagelsmann over their managerial vacancy.

It’s been a tough first season for new owner Todd Boehly. Despite spending over €600 million across the summer and January, the south-west Londoners are currently in 11th place – on course for their joint-second lowest finish in the Premier League era.

Tuchel was fired by the American in September following an unconvincing start to life in the new campaign. Graham Potter was brought in as an intended long-term option, but he lasted just seven months in charge.

Club legend and former manager Frank Lampard has returned to Stamford Bridge on an interim basis. He has taken charge of three games, losing all three. However, the board have no plans to cut his spell short.

Nagelsmann isn’t the only manager in the frame for the Chelsea job. Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has been suggested, along with Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Abel Ferreira and Ruben Amorim.

Burnley’s Vincent Kompany has also been named a potential candidate for the job. The Belgian is viewed as one of football’s most promising up-and-coming managers, having taken the Clarets back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
