Chelsea manager Emma Hayes says that she expects points to be shared amongst teams more this season than any other campaign in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The Blues won 18 of their 22 matches in last season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League as they collected yet another league title. Hayes’ side have already dropped points this season with The Blues having been defeated 3-2 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on opening day.

When speaking in her pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s trip to Manchester United, Hayes said that she expects points to be shared a lot more this season than what we have witnessed in previous years.

“When you lose the opener you are up against it,” Hayes said. “I do think that this season more teams will take points from each other than in any other season.

“I don’t go into games fearing things or worrying about things, our approach will be how we get three points.”

Commenting on this weekend’s opponents Manchester United, Hayes went on to say that new head coach Marc Skinner is already making an impression on the team and The Red Devils will be as tough a challenge as the very top teams in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

She said “They’ve made a bright start, they’ve implemented some changes in their attacking play. The big difference is Marc implementing his style on the team – they’ve got quality throughout, a lot of internationals. He has walked into a team that is already in a very good position and he is just adding his touch to it.

“They are at home and I think that they will cause us as many problems as the top teams, they have got enough quality to do that and I expect it to be a really close game. I am sure that United will compete on all fronts this year.”

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester United and Chelsea will kick-off at 12.30pm on Sunday and will be broadcast live on BBC Two.
