Chelsea have made a whopping £102m offer to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid

As per Spanish outlet Defensa Central (h/t Evening Standard), Chelsea have made a huge £102m offer to sign Real Madrid and Uruguay midfielder Federico Valverde during the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old is a central figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s team, hence, although the report sounds encouraging, it might be difficult to attract the player from away to Chelsea this summer. But, funnier things have happened in transfer windows in the past.

Talking about the player, his contract with the 14-time European champions last until the summer of 2027 (Transfermarkt). He is an all-action midfielder who can operate as a winger as well, just like he did successfully in the Champions League final of 2022.

He possesses good pace, can pass the ball extremely well as most do in Madrid, has a good shot in him and works hard off the ball. He is technically good and seems to follow managerial instructions better than most players.

While, as mentioned above, it seems tough to think that Valverde would want to leave Los Blancos irrespective of what Chelsea offer, can Mauricio Pochettino change his mind? We would hope so.

To be honest, the Blues could do with a midfielder like him who can take the game to the opposition and impose his personality every time.

After missing out on Manuel Ugarte to Paris-Saint Germain, the club is looking to sign Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. Arsenal are in the race as well.

Chelsea must sign a striker as well. They are in competition with Madrid for Lautaro Martinez. Expecting too much to progress from the Valverde might be a bit overambitious. So, let’s be realistic and complete the deals that are actually possible. If something crazy happens, then there will be an opportunity to pounce.
