Chelsea have more than doubled their money on Renato Veiga after selling the defender to Villarreal in the summer transfer window.
The Portugal international only joined the Blues from FC Basel last year in a deal worth £12 million.
Veiga made 18 appearances under manager Enzo Maresca before he was sent on loan to Juventus for the second half of the campaign.
The 22-year-old was linked with a return to Turin on a permanent basis after helping the Old Lady qualify for the UEFA Champions League in his 13 Serie A appearances.
However, Chelsea announced on Friday that Veiga has joined Villarreal on a seven-year deal for a transfer fee rising up to £26 million.
That’s potentially £14 million more than the south west London outfit paid for the centre-back, representing a profit of 116 percent on their original purchase.
It’s yet another example of Chelsea being able to offload an unwanted player from their bloated squad without taking a financial hit.
They have sold 12 players for an estimated £250 million this summer, balancing out the £277 million they have spent on nine new signings.
Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic were both sold for more than they cost, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall joined Everton for a fee just under what Chelsea paid. The sales of Armando Broja, Lesley Ugochukwu and Bashir Humphreys all represented pure profit as they came through the club’s academy.
Joao Felix was sold to Al-Nassr for an initial £26.2 million, well short of the £42 million for which he arrived last summer, but the deal does include a potential £17.5 million in add-ons.
Marcus Bettinelli was sold to Manchester City for a nominal fee, four years after he moved to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer from Fulham. Mathis Amougou and Ishe Samuels-Smith were both sold to Strasbourg, which is part of the BlueCo multiclub group.
