Chelsea look to generate €500m transfer war chest with insane selling spree

We’ve just covered a story about Wesley Fofana and Chelsea’s desire to sell him this summer, covering rumours that originated with Spanish football website Fichajes.

Now they’re not the best source, but the list they put together of players the Blues could sell is pretty eye opening as a reminder of how many assets there are to be moved on this summer.

We don’t agree with all of these: there’s simply no way we’re selling Andrey Santos, Mike Penders, Reece James or Robert Sanchez this summer – but the rest are all pretty realistic. Some area almost certain. It’s a reminder of just how much cash could be raised just with some smart and decisive moves in the market.

“Players like Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, Robert Sanchez, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Ben Chilwell, Marc Guiu, David Fofana, Reece James, Axel Disasi, Andrey Santos, João Félix, Lesley Ugochukwu, Carney Chukwuemeka, Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Mike Penders, Deivid Washington, Caleb Wiley, Alfie Gilchrist, and Bashir Humphreys could be on the chopping block as well.”

That’s quite a list. The reality is that most will be sold for for a loss, but there’s still enough quality in there to raise something in the order of hundreds of millions of Euros if our sporting directors get their act together. The €500m mentioned in the article might be ambitious, but it’s not too far off.

Chelsea’s insane squad with weeks until season starts.

A lot of our summer action will depend on whether we make it into the top 5 places in the league – something that looks a lot less likely after this weekend’s results.

If we sell off 10 of these players and use the funds to sign 2 really good players who instantly improve the first team, we will be looking in much better shape for next season.
