In a recent report, La Gazzetta dello Sport mentioned that Chelsea are locked in a three-way battle for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. It has been claimed that the Blues could face competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Slovakia international.

Skriniar’s Solid Campaign In Italian Football

Skriniar has produced a series of dominant displays at the centre of Inter’s defence and has enjoyed a successful campaign in Italy. The 27-year-old has registered four goals in 47 matches for the Italian side this season in multiple competitions.

The Slovak talent has been a rock at the back based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 92.8% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).

What Will Skriniar Add To Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel’s Team?

Skriniar can use his strong 1.88m to win some important aerial duels for his team and can chip in by scoring the odd goal from indirect set-pieces every now and then. He is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger quickly to secure the ball back inside his half. The Slovak star doesn’t hesitate when trying to clear his lines at the back and can make a few crucial blocks as well. He is even proficient at playing his way out from the back which makes him a decent fit for Thomas Tuchel‘s brand of football.

Skriniar is good enough to secure regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge. He could even form a dominant defensive partnership with Thiago Silva at Chelsea next season.

We can expect the Inter defensive ace to add more quality to Tuchel’s backline. He could serve as an ideal replacement for Antonio Rudiger who is set to leave the West London club this summer. Skriniar might even help the Blues challenge for a few major trophies over the next few years. Thus, Tuchel should prioritize on getting a deal done for the Slovak sensation during this summer transfer period.
