Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly not be counting on Xavi Simons for next season after the player intends to go back out on loan. As a result, a player that many assumed would help the Parisians forget about Kylian Mbappé won’t be there.

So, the question is, what players could the capital club pursue as alternate targets now that they know Simons won’t be coming and could possibly leave permanently in 2025?

While there are many names circulating in the rumor mill, there’s one name that PSG shouldn’t pursue because they don’t fit the project in terms of their age and perhaps nationality.

In his latest column for PSG Talk Extra Time, Robin Bairner believes that pursuing players like Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling and Liverpool’s Luis Díaz, who is recently reported to be on the capital club and FC Barcelona’s radar. However, Bairner writes that the Colombian doesn’t fit the Parisian project.

“PSG will be seeking a player with similar qualities: a strong passer who can also dribble and, out of possession, will work hard to regain the ball,” Bairner wrote.

“There are some interesting possibilities. Liverpool’s Luis Diaz has already been linked with a move to PSG this summer, while Raheem Sterling’s future at Chelsea is not settled. Both, though, are in their late 20s—above the age range of players the current project is targeting.”

PSG did pursue Lucas Hernandez and Ousmane Dembélé, who are in their late 20s, but the two players are French players and fit the need of making the squad more French and injecting youth.
