Chelsea have been linked with a move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The 23-year-old has been an important player for Valencia but he is expected to move on at the end of the season. A report from Estadio Deportivo claims that Chelsea are one of the clubs keen on Mamardashvili along with Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur.

The goalkeeper has done quite well in the Spanish league and he is certainly good enough for the Premier League. He could prove to be an upgrade on Robert Sanchez who has been underwhelming since moving to Chelsea at the start of the season.

The Blues are expected to cash in on Kepa Arrizabalaga and they could invest in another goalkeeper. Mamardashvili could prove to be a quality acquisition.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is not worth €100 million

However, Valencia will have to be reasonable with their demands in order for the move to go through. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has a €100 million release clause in his contract and the Blues are unlikely to pay that kind of money for him.

Although there is no doubt that Mamardashvili is a proven performer in the Spanish top flight. He has done nothing to warrant the €100 million price tag. Also, Chelsea will have limited resources because of the financial regulations and they cannot afford to pay over the odds for players especially when they need to strengthen multiple areas of their squad.

Mamardashvili is relatively young and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience. He has all the tools to develop into a quality Premier League goalkeeper in the coming seasons. If he manages to adapt to English football quickly, he could sort out Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation for the foreseeable future.
