This is the insiders’ time of year, and Ben Jacobs is absolutely pumping out the Chelsea content right now.

After a slow start to the summer, especially on the sales front, the arrival of preseason has really sped things up.

The Conor Gallagher, situation, which has essentially been stagnant for a couple of years, is really accelerating now. Jacobs’ latest piece for GiveMeSport is full of info about the potential departure of the midfielder.

Jacobs claims that Chelsea have accepted an offer from Atletico Madrid for Gallagher which is worth “in excess of €40m with add ons included.”

As others have reported in the last 12 hours, it’s not up to Gallagher. He either takes the move, or decides to stay at Chelsea.

Briefings which came simultaneously from the club to their chosen journalists last night claimed that Gallagher had rejected a new three year contract as recently as Wednesday, and another one in June. Around that time he also rejected a move to Aston Villa which the club had given the green light to.

Confusing contract reports point to plain lies

The contract situation makes no sense so us – Gallagher clearly wants to stay, so if he was offered a deal which puts him among the highest earners, we’re sure he would take it. The only explanation is that the deal isn’t what the club sources are claiming it was. Their desire is to sell him to balance the books, and just like with Mason Mount before him, they need to make it seem like they had done everything they could.

We still would love Gallagher to stay, he could be a vital player for us this season – there’s a reason Champions League clubs are the ones pushing to sign him from us.
