Chelsea are among 6 English teams who have join with 6 European sides to announce their intentions to form a “Super League” to replace the Champions League.

After a long day of rumours, the news broke late on Sunday night, with Chelsea, Arsenal, both Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Liverpool all announcing they would be part of the “founding members” of a European competition to be played in midweek, starting as soon as feasibly possible.

The ramifications are huge and still ongoing, as organisations like UEFA, FIFA and the Premier League scrambled to respond to the potentially (literally) game-changing news.

There are whispers that the teams involved will be kicked out of European competition this season, or could face points deductions in the Premier League.

The reaction to the announcement on social media was overwhelmingly negative, with “replies” still outstripping “likes” on Chelsea’s Tweet of the link to their statement more than two hours after it was posted.
