Sébastien Denis is reporting that Chelsea are currently the frontrunners to recruit Tim Steidten, who recently departed his role at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

Steidten was previously the head of scouting at the German club. He was responsible for the recruitment of players such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Edmond Tapsoba and Moussa Diaby. He became the general manager at Leverkusen at the beginning of the current campaign but left his role earlier in March.

Sky Sports News had linked Steidten with a potential move to AS Monaco to replace Paul Mitchell. The English sporting director is expected to leave the Principality club at the end of the summer transfer window, and as reported by Get French Football News, Premier League club Liverpool have held talks with him.

However, Steidten won’t be replacing Mitchell at Monaco, according to Denis. The French journalist denied any contact between the two parties and added that it is Chelsea that are in the driving seat to recruit the German director.
