Chelsea holding talks to hire Thomas Tuchel in case Frank Lampard gets the sack

Former Premier League striker turned columnist, Jan Aage Fjortoft, (h/t Mirror) states that Chelsea are in talks to bring in Thomas Tuchel at the club in the possible event of Frank Lampard getting the sack.

Chelsea are in terrible form in the league, and Lampard is facing the heat. The club has just 2 wins in their last 8 Premier League games and are now 8th in the table.

The Blues have fallen a long way from the earlier highs of being at the Premier League summit. Ever since the 16-match unbeaten streak was broken by Everton, the club has looked shaky.

And now, Lampard’s job is under threat with the bookies having Thomas Tuchel as the favourite to replace him. Tuchel was recently sacked by Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain and is now without a club.

Planning ahead

Fjortoft has even gone on to say that the Chelsea board have held discussions over the possibility of hiring the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

“Agents and Chelsea – representatives have been talking about bringing Tuchel in. I understand no decision has been made in terms of Lampard yet, but if he goes Tuchel is seen as the best replacement in the middle of the season.”

Tuchel is not the only name linked to the Blues. Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhuttl, Massimiliano Allegri, and RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann are all in the running for the job at Stamford Bridge. (h/t Mirror)

It is also believed that Chelsea would be looking for a manager well-versed with the German language in order to get the best out of new signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

Right now, there is nothing concrete to suggest that the club is going to sack the Englishman. However, failure to get better results in the coming weeks would definitely add more pressure on the Chelsea boss.
