Chelsea in April: Next Six Premier League fixtures | OneFootball

Chelsea are currently languishing in 10th position on the Premier League table, and the chances of them qualifying for next season’s Champions League are very slim.

However, after an abysmal run of three wins in 17 games, the Blues look to have rediscovered the form they showed during Graham Potter’s early days at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last four games (W3, D1), but dropping points against relegation-threatened Everton in a 2-2 draw last time out does not bode well for their chances in the upcoming fixtures.

Club football takes a two-week break with players having international commitments. However, with the Premier League set to return at the start of next month, we look at the fixtures April has in store for the Blues.

Aston Villa – April 1 (H)

Chelsea will welcome Unai Emery’s dogged Aston Villa side to west London in their first league game post-international break.

Mason Mount netted a brace to seal a 2-0 win for the Blues in the reverse fixture at Villa Park when Steven Gerrard was still Villa’s manager.

However, both sides have had quite the journey since the first leg, with Villa now with a new boss and Chelsea still finding their feet under Potter.

The Villans will head to the Bridge brimming with confidence following an impressive 3-0 success over Bournemouth in their last outing.

The Blues will be looking to extend their impressive run over Villa, having lost just one of their last nine meetings against them, which came on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign on Villa’s turf.

Liverpool – April 4 (H)

After welcoming Villa to the Bridge, the Blues host Liverpool just three days later in a mouth-watering showdown that is poised to have a significant impact on either side’s bid for a European finish.

The teams could not be separated in the reverse fixture at Anfield following a goalless stalemate and not for the lack of trying.

Liverpool’s inconsistency has been the catalyst of their demise this season, yet a top-four finish is well within their reach.

A euphoric 7-0 victory over Manchester United was followed by consecutive defeats to Bournemouth and Real Madrid heading into the international break.

Klopp’s side are fragile, but they tend to find clarity, composure and ruthlessness when facing the league’s ‘big boys’, so Chelsea will need to be wary.

Whether either side will find a winner remains to be seen, as the last five meetings between both clubs in all competitions have ended in a draw, including a goalless stalemate in each of the previous three.

Wolverhampton Wanderers – April 8 (A)

With the fixtures coming in thick and fast, Chelsea travel to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers four days after trading tackles with Liverpool.

Julen Lopetegui’s side are fighting to stave off relegation after managing just one win in their last six games, including consecutive defeats to Newcastle United and Leeds United.

Goals from Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja ensured the Blues ran out 3-0 winners In October, but Potter’s side will need to be wary of the dangers a wounded Wolves side could pose.

The victory in the reverse fixture was Chelsea’s first over Wolves in their last five meetings (D3, L1), with each of the previous three ending in stalemate.

Brighton & Hove Albion – April 15 (H)

October’s ruthless humiliation at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium will be fresh in Potter’s memory when both sides renew hostilities at the Bridge.

The 4-1 defeat sparked Chelsea’s woeful run of form that extended to a further 15 games, and the Englishman will be keen to avoid another capitulation against his former employers.

Brighton have improved in leaps and bounds under Roberto de Zerbi’s tutelage, and the Seagulls have their sights firmly fixed on an improbable place in Europe.

Having won their last five games in a row, it is safe to say there is no shortage of confidence and belief in the Brighton dressing room.

Chelsea will need to bring their ‘A’ game if they are to come away with a positive result against a side that are notorious for stunning the division’s heavyweights.

Brentford – April 26 (H)

Chelsea’s fixtures do not get easier as the month progresses, with Brentford storming Stamford Bridge towards the tail end of April.

The Bees have lost just one of their last nine games (W4, D4) and are on course for a place in one of Europe’s top competitions next season if they can maintain their current form.

A 2-0 success over Southampton was followed by a 1-1 draw against Leicester City, leaving Thomas Frank’s side level on points with Liverpool, who currently occupy the Europa Conference League spot.

Chelsea were held to a goalless draw at the Gtech Community Stadium in the reverse fixture and will be looking for their first league success over Brentford since October 2021.

Arsenal – April 29 (A)

Chelsea will round off their April fixtures with a London derby showdown against league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side have done well to maintain their lead over reigning champions Manchester City and a convincing 4-1 success over Crystal Palace last time out saw the gap at the Premier League summit extended to eight points.

Chelsea were powerless to resist their London counterparts in November as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of Gabriel Magalhaes.

Potter’s side will need a much-improved performance to overcome Arteta’s rampant title-chasing Gunners when both sides lock horns next month.
