Chelsea are in advanced negotiations to appoint Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who state that Maresca is now the No. 1 target to succeed Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will have to pay a reported compensation fee of around €10m for Maresca, who won the Championship title at Leicester this season.
Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi, who announced he would be leaving Brighton at the end of the season, were also on Chelsea’s shortlist, but it appears that Maresca is now at the forefront of their plans.
The Italian was an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City for 61 games before being appointed Leicester City manager last summer.
Fabrizio Romano further adds that there was talks over the weekend, and that Maresca is ‘100 percent keen and excited by the Chelsea project’,
With Chelsea, Milan, Bayern Munich and Barcelona managerless and Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United in doubt, there’s several elite European clubs searching for a new coach next season.
Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Hansi Flick, Thomas Tuchel, Massimiliano Allegri and José Mourinho are several high profile coaches that are available.
