Chelsea games have been following the same pattern almost all season.

This young, inexperienced team put in an energetic first 15 minutes, but can’t manage to score.

They then drop off a little for the next 15 minutes, but still do well.

Then, in the final 15 minutes of the first half, they start to get dispirited, and energy levels drop.

At some point along the way they concede, and the second half is a scramble of formation changes and attacking subs as they desperately try to get back in the game.

Last night, however, things were different. We managed to score in our good period, and then the whole pattern was different. We spent the rest of the game playing on our terms, managing the match and seeing it out very professionally.

The question is whether getting those goals is going to change the confidence and mentality of this team in the long run. If it does, it could be a huge turning point.
