Chelsea have a ‘serious interest’ in RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons, who is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Simons has expressed his interest in leaving Leipzig after the German side missed out on European football.

The 22-year-old only made his loan move from Paris Saint-Germain permanent in January, but Leipzig are open to a sale for a fee in the region of €70m (£60.5m).

Chelsea and Arsenal are aware of the situation with Sky Germany reporting that Chelsea are the most ‘concrete option’ for Simons this summer. The West Londoners have a ‘serious interest’ in the player, as Enzo Maresca seeks another creative option for his squad.

Last season, Simons scored 10 times in the Bundesliga and provided seven assists, despite making just 25 league starts.

No talks between the two clubs have taken place as things stand, though Chelsea have initiated contact with Simons’ camp to discuss personal terms.

Bayern Munich are long-term admirers of the midfielder but are not currently pursuing a deal, as the Bundesliga champions focus on Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. However, Bayern sporting director Max Erbl is informed on Simons’ situation.
