There’s a fair bit going on in Chelsea world right now.

The fans are falling out with Enzo Maresca, the team are falling out of the Champions League places, and there’s a European semi to qualify for this week.

But that won’t stop the endless churn of the transfer machine. Today we have an update on one of the players likely to be at the centre of a lot of attention this summer – Dean Huijsen.

One of the breakout stars of the season in the Premier League, the Bournemouth defender has a £50m release clause which multiple teams are interested in triggering.

While Chelsea’s new model is averse to spending large sums on older players, a 20 year old for £50m does add up if they’re good enough, and Huijsen’s impressive form in the Premier League since moving from Juventus in the summer seems to have convinced everyone he will be.

How Chelsea can take the lead over Real Madrid

Today’s update comes from Ben Jacobs, who says that Chelsea have Huijsen “particularly high in their thinking.” They want to find a player capable of partnering Levi Colwill at the back. Renato Veiga and Axel Disasi are out on loan, Wesley Fofana can’t be trusted due to endless injuries.

The real threats come from Liverpool and Real Madrid. Madrid is the “dream destination” for Huijsen, but they simply may not get involved in an attempt to sign him.

Jacobs points out that Bournemouth would like a sale concluded quickly so they can move on, and therefore Premier League clubs have the advantage, as their interest is “more advanced.” This backs up David Ornstein, who last week said we had already had “meetings” with his camp.

He will pick Madrid if they get into the race – if they don’t, it sounds like we have a great chance of landing him.
