Manchester United are expected to address their goalkeeping situation this summer, with head coach Ruben Amorim keen to shake things up following underwhelming performances from Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report outlining the type of goalkeeper Amorim is after.
The former Sporting Lisbon boss prefers a reliable number one who excels at the basics rather than prioritising flair.
As United search for an upgrade between the posts, a potential transfer battle with Chelsea appears to be brewing.
Over the weekend, Calciomercato published an intriguing report on AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, stating that the Serie A side plan to reinitiate contract renewal talks with their French international.
Negotiations previously broke down last December when Maignan rejected Milan’s offer, reportedly demanding twice his current wages.
While the Rossoneri are keen to tie him down, as requested by new head coach Max Allegri, they find themselves in a precarious position.
Apparently, the new offer will be even lower than their previous proposal due to their absence from European competitions.
Milan hope the French international will agree to the revised terms.
With his contract set to expire in 12 months, Milan are aiming for an extension until 2028.
However, according to the Italian publication, both United and Chelsea admire the player and are closely monitoring the situation.
If there is any indication that the 29-year-old is available, both clubs are ready to act.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has dropped an interesting update on the ex-Lille shot-stopper.
Chelsea have made first contact, with INEOS closely monitoring the situation
The Italian transfer insider claims the Blues are not waiting for signals and have already approached Milan to inquire about the goalkeeper’s availability.
The Conference League holders’ approach is something INEOS will be keeping a close eye on.
If Milan clarify their stance and set terms for a potential transfer, there is little reason why United would not attempt to hijack the deal.
Given their urgency to bolster the goalkeeping department, it is hard to see them allowing Enzo Maresca’s side a free run at Maignan.
After securing Matheus Cunha’s signature and reaching an agreement with Bryan Mbeumo, the Red Devils head into this transfer battle full of confidence—and rightly so.
