According to a recent report by Daily Mail, Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso has conceded that he could be resigned to selling their prodigious Italian winger Federico Chiesa in the summer, given that the right offer does come in for the player. It has been suggested that this update comes as a significant boost to Chelsea and Manchester United, both of whom have been linked with a move for the attacker over recent months.
While Manchester United are said to have watched the Serie A man’s progress for the whole of 2020, Chelsea’s interest levels have also been gradually increasing. With Chelsea keen on Federico Chiesa, Frank Lampard would have to shell out in the region of £60m for the Italian’s services.
At the same time, they will also have to fend off competition from the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan. Speaking to Radio Bruno Toscana, the owner of Fiorentina said, “If he wants to go then I’m sorry, but we’d accommodate him providing the offer is fair.”
Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side started the season looking like the campaign would be one to forget, but as it turned out, with a lot of thanks to all the other clubs around them on the table, they found themselves in fourth place when it was brought to a halt. While that is respectable given the situation they had encountered in the summer, the fact remains that there is still a lot of work to be done at Stamford Bridge before Lampard’s team can look to challenge for the title again.
First things first, Chelsea’s veteran wide duo of Willian and Pedro needs to be offloaded in the summer. As The 4th Official has clarified in the past, there wouldn’t be a better time for Chelsea to try and get rid of their two long-standing servants than this summer, as their influences within the side have begun to dwindle. Moreover, the system that Lampard is building at Chelsea does seem to be based around youth, in which case looking in the transfer market would be the best option to replace them.
Federico Chiesa has been one of the brightest wingers to come out of Italy in recent years, and he has often been the lone shining star for Fiorentina, in what has overall been a season to forget. Despite not being the quickest, Chiesa offers excellent balance as well as dribbling abilities, which he knows how to utilise efficiently. One of the best strikers of the ball in the entire Serie A, it would be an extremely shrewd piece of business to acquire the Italian this summer.
As has been suggested in the report, the winger has already begun taking English lessons, which will come as bad news to both his Italian suitors. The Serie A club’s struggles in the league this season have been no secret, in which case a move to any of the potential destinations would be an upgrade for the player. With that said though, keeping in mind that Chelsea and Manchester United are the front-runners, the Italian would be better suited to joining the West London club, as he would then have the opportunity to immediately play Champions League football from next season.
