The 33-year-old German keeper joined Chelsea from Birmingham City in the January 2019 window. The player has made a major contribution towards The Blues’ domestic dominance in recent years. In her time in South West London, Berger has won four Barclays Women’s Super League titles, three Adobe Women’s FA Cups, two FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cups and the FA Women’s Community Shield. She was also a member of the Chelsea side which reached the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in 2020/2021.

With Hannah Hampton now having established herself as Chelsea’s number one, Berger has determined it to be the right time to move on.

After joining NJ/NY Gotham FC, Berger said “I am incredibly excited to join Gotham FC for this season. The NWSL is one of the top leagues in the world right now and I am very excited to compete and be a part of this league.”

Berger leaves England after playing in the Barclays Women’s Super League for the last eight years.
